Fees: £15/ class - contact Miriam to book

Location: Sillwood Court, Montpellier Road, BN12NL

As Dhrupad is rooted in Hindustani Culture, it is a sacred tradition. To honour this, I ask everyone who would like to attend to commit once they had their taster class. I appreciate that not everyone is able to attend every class, however it is important to immerse yourself in the practice, which us why I ask to commit to the classes they are able to attend before the beginning of each half term.

For any questions, please call me on 07816784546.

Dhrupad is a genre in Hindustani classical music from the Indian subcontinent. It is the oldest known style of major vocal styles associated with Hindustani classical music,

Dhrupad traces its origin to the ancient text of Sāmaveda. The Sāmaveda was chanted with the help of melody and rhythm called Samgana. Gradually this developed into other vocal style called ‘Chhanda’ and ‘Prabandha’ with introduction of verse and meter. The fusion of these two elements led to the emergence of Dhrupad.Dhrupad is the most ancient form of Hindustani Music. It evolved from the earlier chanting of OM, the sacred syllable which claimed in Hindu canon to be the source of all creation. In Dhrupad, we use our voice as a form of prayer to become one with God.

In this course, we will explore some basics of Raag Yaman. All teaching of Indian Music is based in call and response, so no previous experience necessary. We will sing the melody of the raga and dive into a state of wellbeing and connection.
‘Miriam is taking me through the journey of healing my voice, with deep listening, and sacred sound. Raga is a prayer. After each lesson, I feel blessed. ’
